WHO WE ARE
Gulf Shore Animal League, a 501(C)(3)non-profit organization, is dedicated to expanding the Trap-Neuter-Return programs in Manatee County so that the dream of becoming a No-Kill community by 2012 may be realized.
We realize that without an effective TNR program to control the over-population of cats we, as a community, will never be able to stop, or effectively curb, the appalling practice of killing healthy cats and kittens at Animal Services as the method of population control.
Our focus must then be to turn off the production at the source. We will not spend limited resources on warehousing or sheltering cats and kittens.

At long last, our County Commission, Animal Services, and several other animal welfare organizations are working together with us to enact a new ordinance which is aimed at allowing Trap/Neuter/Return of free-roaming cats in Manatee County. This non-lethal method of population control will enable the whole community to be involved in ending the needless suffering and destruction of thousands of cats each year in Manatee County. Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) will also reduce and/or eliminate nuisance behaviors of free-roaming cats, negative impact on wildlife, and promote spaying and neutering at a whole new level for Manatee County. The new ordinance is in legal review now and must go through two public hearings before it can be incorporated here in Manatee County. Please watch our site for updates and show your support by dropping a note to your county commissioner, asking him/her to support TNR. You can also show your support by attending the public hearings. Dates for the hearings are not yet determined but will be made available when we have word from the County. For more information on TNR and how it works, visit www.alleycat.org.

For every litter of kittens born, 5 good homes must be found. Many times these kittens grow up outside, un-neutered, and at five months of age, start producing more kittens.
Cats typically breed three times per year. Do the math – each spay makes a difference!
Help GSAL end the sad situation of unwanted pets in our community. A gift of $30 will neuter and vaccinate one productive male cat. $45 will spay and vaccinate a female.

| • | Get your Vet involved! Gulf Shore Animal League has access to excellent resources and methods of providing medical treatment for feral cats. |
| • | Adopt a feral kitten. With a little patience feral kittens can be domesticated. Contact Gulf Shore Animal League and let us know you can foster or adopt. Request the fact sheet "Taming Feral Kittens." |
| • | Contribute to Gulf Shore Animal League. Your donation goes a long way in helping us help the forgotten cats in our community. All donations directly benefit the animals. We have no paid staff. |

Birth Control NOT Pest Control
Gulf Shore Animal League is modeled after successful programs in Europe and in the U.S. cities of New Orleans, San Diego, Miami Beach, Washington, D.C. and Orange County, Florida. The trap-neuter-return program uses a humane method of animal control because it breaks the cycle of kittens born feral and unwanted and the problem of over population of a particular colony. Through this method the population of the colony is stablized, the cats in the colony are healthier, young kittens that can be socialized are adopted into suitable homes, and the volunteer caretakers enjoy a colony where the cats live peacefully and safely within their territory. Typical problems generally associated with a colony of feral cats such as yowling females and spraying toms are eliminated and the incidence of malnutrition and disease are almost non-existent. Join forces with us today to help protect all the cats in our community.

Throughout the year, adult cats are constantly overlooked and often spend many months, sometimes years, waiting for a new home. This is particularly true through the summer months when everyone wants kittens - and all those wonderful, loving Adult Cats are yet again left waiting.. and waiting... and waiting.

Gulf Shore Animal League is on a Mission to make Manatee County a "No Kill" community and you can help!
Gulf Shore Animal League is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of stray and feral cats in our community. In addition to our work with hundreds of individuals, we have also forged alliances with numerous businesses to control and protect the feral cat population. The Sandbar Restaurant, Quality Plumbing, Bray Roofing, and others are currently partnering with us to curb (and to one day eliminate) the unnecessary practice of euthanasia of healthy cats and kittens as a method of population control. Our program consists of trapping the cats, vetting them for health screening, spaying or neutering the cats, adminstering a rabies vaccine, tipping the left ear so that it can be readily identified, microchipping and returning the cats to the colony. The volunteer caretakers provide food and water for the colony and oversee their continuing care. The end result is a healthy, managed cat colony that no longer produces kittens or the unwanted mating and territorial behaviors.

the sale of license plates will be distributed to non-profit organizations and
governmental agencies around the state for spay/neuter programs.
